Scan a shopping list with your phone camera

Point your phone at a handwritten list, a printed one, a receipt or a sticky note. Catch reads it and hands back a tidy checklist sorted by aisle, so you walk the shop once instead of three times.

How scanning a list works

1. Open the Scan tab and choose Scan a grocery list.
2. Frame the list and tap the shutter. No camera handy? Import a photo from your library, or tap Sample to try it first.
3. Catch shows a review screen. Fix a misread word, remove a line, or add something before anything is saved.
4. Confirm, and the items land in a checklist sorted by supermarket aisle.

What it can read

Handwriting, print, a till receipt, a note stuck to the fridge. The list does not have to be neat, but it helps to lay it flat, use good light and fill the frame. If a line comes out wrong, that is what the review screen is for. You can also skip the camera and tap Add item to type an item in, and Catch guesses the aisle for you.

Why sorted by aisle matters

A list in the order you thought of things sends you back and forth across the shop. A list sorted by aisle lets you go round once. Sorting is free and unlimited in Catch, and it works the same for a list you typed as for one you photographed.

What happens to the photo

Catch has no account, and your lists stay on your phone. Reading a photo is the one job it cannot do on the phone: the picture of the list is sent to Anthropic (Claude) to be read, and it is then discarded. This never happens silently. Before your very first scan Catch asks whether it may send the photo away, nothing is sent until you say yes, and you can withdraw that permission at any time in Settings. The privacy policy describes exactly what is sent.

Then make the shop a game

Each item you tap off earns XP. Chain quick taps for a combo multiplier, finish a whole list for a bonus, and use Catch on consecutive days to build a streak. Good to know

Reading a list is done by AI, so it can be wrong: a misread item or a missed line. Check the review screen before you shop.
